Abstract: The evolution of software application outsourcing: From order-taking to leadership in Intellectual Integration and Digitalization
Digitalization transforms the markets with the dizzying intensity. Millions of devices and systems, sensors and beacons are now integrated and functioning within complex ecosystems, each running some kind of software. It is clear that following a trend set by Internet of Things, the Industrial Internet will soon become a reality, affecting people and businesses all over the world.
What is now expected from the software engineering company? Is it enough to have a pool of talented software engineers? What are the risks associated with traditional business models and how shall the business transform itself in order to embrace the change and respond to new challenges? We hope to provide some answers during this session.
The industry veteran will share his personal experience in leading a business that started as a naïve order-taking offshore outsourcing shop to its currently recognized position in the global market of application outsourcing. Today, even a child can develop applications for smart phones and desktops using a vast variety of tools and means for rapid application development. This has made for a very dynamic market. However, it still needs professionals to address security, scalability, robustness, performance, and – most important – innovation. The more businesses depend on software, the more domain-specific innovation comes from software partners.
We will discuss how to select, motivate, and retain the best professionals capable to produce high quality software in the record short time; which engagement models work best to align client’s and vendor’s business goals; how to accommodate ever shrinking time-to-market demands applying suitable development methodology. We will also provide some advice for entrepreneurs, planning to start new business in this highly competitive, not an easy, but very exciting and rewarding field.
